I used to take pictures of things I wanted to make art from, but returning to those pictures usually proved unproductive because I couldn’t remember what I wanted from them. Returning to a sketch or watercolor drawing made on site is much more informative and easy to work from. Often the original sketches are just as interesting or more so than any polished work I might produce in a studio.
