Sir Peter Paul Rubens, a Flemish artist, was noted for his beautiful and colorful paintings. However, before achieving success, Rubens had a hard time finding work.
At a young age, Rubens was sent to Italy to continue his education as an artist. There, he worked as a freelance artist and helped other artists produce paintings for churches and palaces. However, after several years, Rubens felt that he could not develop his talents and found it difficult to find a decent job.
Returning to Belgium, Rubens eventually found work as court painter in Antwerp. In this position, he is entrusted with producing paintings featuring the royal family and important events. However, although Rubens enjoyed his work, he was never truly satisfied with his creations based on requests from clients.
After working as a court painter for some time, Rubens finally decided to become a freelance artist and create according to his own will. However, he continued to face challenges in finding a decent job, especially when the art business started to suffer during the Thirty Years’ War.
Despite facing challenges in finding work, Rubens never lost his enthusiasm and continued to create. His paintings eventually became recognized as some of the finest works in the history of Western art and he is considered one of the most celebrated artists of the Renaissance and Baroque ages.
In many ways, Rubens’ career path shows that success in the arts is not something that is easy to come by, especially in the past. However, with persistence and dedication, Rubens managed to achieve great success and become one of the greatest artists of all time.
