Meet the Author
I am an artist and illustrator with a penchant for storytelling. In 2013, I was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to research Anatolian textiles in Turkey, for which I lived in Istanbul for one dazzling year. Afterward, I continued to travel the world with artist-in-residence programs that provided the opportunity for long visits and cultural immersion. My Moleskine sketchbooks recorded the colorful journey along the way. Five years and four continents later, I had a collection of two hundred vibrant paintings. Eighty of my favorite pages are featured in my debut book, The Traveling Artist: A Visual Journal (G Editions, 2021). Although I love painting plein air, the moments that inspire me are usually spontaneous and fleeting. I use daylight to explore my environment, then settle down in the evenings to reflect on my day and paint from reference photos. I want every page to be my favorite. If I’m not completely happy with a composition, I will cover it with paint and start over. For this reason, a single sketchbook takes a year to complete. My home studio is based just outside of Portland, Maine, but I continue to attend one artist-in-residence program a year.
