Chhath Puja is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival historically native to the Indian subcontinent of Bihar, specifically, the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal as well as the Madhesh region of Nepal. Chhath Puja is dedicated to Surya and his sister Chhathi Maiya to thank them for besting the limits of life on earth and requesting them to grant some wishes. Chhath does not include any idol worship. Nepalese and Indians celebrate this festival with their diaspora. While it is a Hindu festival, some Muslims also celebrate Chhath.
